Our FAQ's Answered by CEO John Lennon
1. What is the job situation on the current market?
Companies in Germany are still hiring, but we have seen an estimated 35% decrease in availability of Tech jobs across the country. There are also more candidates now available on the open market, so it is more important than even to stand out as a candidate.
2. What positions are most popular right now?
Freelancer requirements are by far most popular right now for us as clients look to complete urgent projects - across many verticles such as PHP development, Frontend Development, Business Transformation and Data Projects. Most popular for permanent at the moment are Data Scientists and Data Engineers, followed closely by frontend developers.
3. Should I be doing freelance during this period?
Now could be a good time to consider freelancing. Whilst it is often throught that in times of crisis companies don't use freelancers, the opposite is true for many companies - who actively look for freelancers to fill gaps and to supercharge their growth. At the same time, delays because of the current situation may delay new applicaitons to become a freelancer in Germany.
4. How could I improve my CV?
The best CV's are simple and are maximum 1 or 2 pages in length. The best CV's also highlight your skills and expereince in a short, succinct way. Think of format, colours and how the CV "looks" from a hiring manager's perspective. Big chunks of text are a big no-no. thryve are offering a free CV review service for anyone at this time - contact email@example.com for more details.
5. How do I go about finding an appartment in Munich?
Prices tend to be highter than most of Gemrnay but you can always shop around for a good deal. There are some great online resources available, but BE AWARE of scams. Unfortunately there are people out there who offer "fake" apartments on sites such as Airbnb, so always take precautions and NEVER pay money directly into a bank account if asked. Thryve are happy to offer free advice on relocation to anywhere in Germany, contact us if you need help.
Your COVID19 Questions
1. I've just been made redundant, are companies still hiring?
We are truly sorry to see so many talented people in our Community losing their jobs at this time, but we are encouraged by the HUGE amount of collaboration between influential companies and people on LinkedIn, Twitter and Feedback. There are many articles, blogs and resources on these sites compiled by companies to help those who need jobs. We estimate a 35% reduction in jobs sinces the beginning of March, so whilst it is harder to find work, there are plenty of opportunities out there for you.
2. What happens during remote onboarding?
One of the positives to come out of this terrible situation is that companies across Germany have implemented remote working options for the first time. We have been encouraged by the amount of companies offering remote onboarding - which is essentially the same as in person, but just via a video! Expect a welcome pack, some companies have sent goodies to their new starters' home address, expect to be introduced to your new employees and training as you normally would. It's amazing to see how easy it can be done online.
