This role ensures the stable, secure, and cost-efficient operation of the Snowflake data platform. The position is responsible for provisioning and managing accounts, databases, schemas, warehouses, roles, and clones according to defined standards, while enforcing security and governance policies set by the Data Governance Lead. The role works closely with the Principal Platform Architect and the Data Platform Operations Engineer (RunOps), under the direction of the Lead Platform & FinOps Engineer.

Goals & Core Responsibilities

Platform Provisioning
  • Standardize the setup and lifecycle of Snowflake accounts, databases, schemas, roles, warehouses, and clones.
  • Enforce consistent naming conventions and tagging standards across all environments.
Security and Governance
  • Implement and maintain RBAC/ABAC, dynamic data masking, and row-level security (RLS).
  • Conduct access reviews and manage internal/external data shares in accordance with data contracts and governance policies.
Cost and Usage Transparency
  • Enforce tag policies and configure resource monitors and auto-suspend settings.
  • Provide detailed usage insights and optimization inputs to the FinOps function.
Architecture Alignment
  • Apply architectural standards for tenants and data layers in collaboration with the Principal Platform Architect.
  • Maintain consistent configurations across development, test, and production environments.
Release and Change Management
  • Adhere to release and freeze windows and coordinate changes and handovers with RunOps.
  • Support stable platform operations during deployments and maintenance cycles.
Automation and DevOps
  • Maintain lightweight CI checks for platform objects and tagging policies in Azure DevOps.
  • Note: Product CI/CD ownership is out of scope.

Key Competencies & Responsibilities

  • Large-scale Snowflake administration (roles, grants, warehouses, cloning, and data sharing).
  • Execution of security and governance policies including RBAC/ABAC, masking, RLS, and access management.
  • FinOps enablement through tag policies, usage monitoring, and cost optimization recommendations.
  • Management of platform configurations under version control (SQL, parameter sets, YAML) in Azure Repos (Git).
  • Close collaboration with Architecture, Governance, and RunOps teams to ensure compliant and reliable operations.

Required Competencies

  • Advanced Snowflake SQL and administration expertise.
  • Proficiency with Azure Repos (Git) including branching, pull requests, and review workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing RBAC/ABAC and configuring warehouses.
  • Strong understanding of tagging, cost monitoring, and resource monitors.
  • SnowPro Core certification (required) plus working knowledge of Snowflake Native Apps and Snowpark.

Qualifications & Role Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data-platform or cloud data-warehouse operations, including at least 2 years focused on Snowflake administration.
  • Familiarity with Kestra is an advantage.
  • Flexible work location (hybrid or remote).
  • Availability aligned with 8×5 operations, with participation in maintenance windows; scalable to 24×7 coverage as required.
