Full Description

Mechatronics / Automation Engineer – AI & RoboticsBuild machines that combine AI, robotics and advanced sensing to solve real-world industrial challenges.
We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys turning ambitious ideas into hardware that actually works. You’ll take new machine concepts from CAD and prototype builds through testing, automation and deployment — working at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics, controls and intelligent systems.
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants ownership, technical variety and the opportunity to see their designs operating in the real world.

What you'll be working on
You’ll help develop a new generation of intelligent automated machinery designed for demanding industrial environments.
  • Your work will include:Designing and developing AI-enabled sorting and automation systems
  • Creating 3D CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings and machine layouts
  • Selecting and integrating technologies such as industrial cameras, advanced sensors, X-ray systems, pneumatics and robotics
  • Building prototypes and taking new concepts through testing and validation
  • Programming and commissioning PLC-based automation systems, particularly with Beckhoff / TwinCAT
  • Supporting electrical design and adapting schematics using tools such as EPLAN
  • Bringing mechanical, electrical and software components together into a complete working machine
  • Troubleshooting systems and solving engineering problems during development and commissioning
  • Supporting installations and machine start-ups at customer sites
  • Working directly with suppliers, manufacturing partners and internal engineering teams
  • Creating and maintaining BOMs, technical documentation, test procedures and acceptance records
  • Helping transition successful prototypes into reliable, repeatable production machines

You won’t be working on one small component of a huge system. You’ll have visibility across the machine and meaningful influence over how the final product is engineered.

What we're looking forYou’ll probably enjoy this role if you like designing at your desk one day and getting your hands on a prototype the next.
  • Ideally, you bring:A degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Experience developing machinery, automation equipment, special-purpose machines or complex technical systems
  • Strong practical experience with 3D CAD, including assemblies, detailed design and technical drawings
  • Experience with PLC programming, ideally Beckhoff / TwinCAT
  • Hands-on experience with prototype development, testing and machine commissioning
  • An understanding of how mechanical, electrical and automation systems interact
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing partners
  • A practical approach to engineering and confidence solving problems independently
  • The willingness to take ownership rather than simply execute specifications
  • Fluent German and good professional English
  • Flexibility to travel for occasional multi-day commissioning or service assignments

Why join? This is an opportunity to work on technology where AI meets physical engineering — and where your designs move quickly from CAD models to real machines.
  • You can expect:Real engineering ownership — influence technical decisions and product architecture
  • Hands-on development — design, build, test, improve and commission what you create
  • Short development cycles — work in an environment where good ideas can become prototypes quickly
  • Technical variety — projects spanning mechanics, sensors, robotics, automation, electronics and AI
  • Visible impact — see your engineering decisions directly reflected in the finished product
  • Room to experiment — test new technologies and approaches rather than simply maintaining legacy systems
  • Close collaboration — work directly with software, electrical, mechanical and manufacturing specialists

Growth opportunities — take on greater technical responsibility as the company and its products scale

The company is developing intelligent automation technology for the recycling and circular-economy sector.

By combining artificial intelligence, advanced sensing and automated sorting, its systems can identify and separate complex material streams with significantly greater precision. This makes it possible to recover valuable materials from waste that would otherwise be difficult or uneconomical to recycle.

The technology has already moved beyond the laboratory and into industrial applications. The next challenge is scaling it: building faster, smarter and more robust machines that can operate reliably in real production environments.

That’s where you come in.If you want to work on complex machines, take ideas from prototype to production and build technology with a tangible real-world purpose, this could be a great next step.
