Lead Project Engineer – Energy Storage (BESS)

About the Role
We are supporting a growing organisation within the renewable energy sector in the search for an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of large-scale energy storage projects.
This role will take ownership of technical project execution, working across engineering, construction, commissioning, and operational handover phases. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Provide technical leadership throughout the lifecycle of utility-scale energy storage projects.
- Coordinate engineering activities from detailed design through commissioning and final handover.
- Ensure technical requirements are aligned with project objectives, timelines, and commercial expectations.
- Identify project risks and support the implementation of effective mitigation strategies.
Engineering & Integration
- Review and validate system designs, equipment selections, and technical documentation.
- Support the development of project-specific technical solutions and integration strategies.
- Oversee technical interfaces between energy storage systems, electrical infrastructure, and grid connection requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regulations, and client specifications.
Commissioning & Quality
- Support testing, commissioning, and energisation activities for new installations.
- Coordinate acceptance testing and performance verification processes.
- Work closely with suppliers, contractors, and technical teams to resolve issues during project execution.
- Contribute to quality assurance initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key technical contact for internal and external project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering, commercial, construction, and operations teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Provide technical input during customer discussions, project reviews, and tender activities where required.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience delivering complex electrical infrastructure, renewable energy, or energy storage projects.
- Previous experience supporting the design, installation, testing, or commissioning of grid-connected assets.
- Strong understanding of power systems, electrical equipment, and energy storage technologies.
- Knowledge of grid connection processes and utility requirements.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on battery storage, renewable generation, or other grid-scale
