HOW THRYVE BECAME A UK’S BEST WORKPLACE FOR WELLBEING

The phone’s ringing. Your colleague is shouting. Another candidate’s gone missing.

A day in the life of a recruiter doesn’t exactly conjure up images of calm sunsets, yoga flows, and peaceful whale music. It can be a stressful job, there’s no denying that, but it can be a seriously rewarding job too.

Wellbeing has always been a top priority here at THRYVE, and we’re super proud to be formally recognised as a company who gets this right!

THRYVE has officially been named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing (2023) by Great Place to Work®. Their culture experts analysed thousands of employee surveys to assess individual experiences of wellbeing at work and determine who is making the most positive impact on their people. Obviously, we’re delighted to have not only made the list, but coming out 8th out of thousands of companies across the UK!

Wellbeing is a complicated and multi-faceted concept. The surveys asked employees to comment on their work-life balance, sense of fulfilment, job satisfaction, psychological safety, and financial security. Evaluations also included an assessment of how well THRYVE could deliver a consistent employee experience across all departments and seniority levels.

The extensiveness of the survey and the detail it goes into only makes us feel incredibly proud to win this award, as it makes clear that the initiatives we’ve put in place are not only effective, but are making people happier and healthier as a result.

HOW WE MADE THE LIST

So what have we done to earn such a prestigious award?

Let’s start with the big one – our four day working week. The happiness of our people is our number one priority and the switch to a shorter week allows each of us to enjoy a rewarding and successful career, whilst also having more time to do the things we love outside of work. With 83.7% of the team saying they feel less stressed as a result of the 4 day work week, we’re confident in calling this our number one wellbeing initiative.

Sticking to the work/life balance theme, we’re huge advocates for flexible working. No one ever felt less stressed with a manager breathing down their neck for not being at their desk for 8.30am. We empower our teams to get the job done – whether they start later, finish earlier, or work remotely. We’re all about letting our people succeed on their terms. Our teams also enjoy an hour and a half break for lunch – to eat, gym, meet a friend, or take up unicycling. Whatever each person’s thing might happen to be, we get plenty of time to do it.

You can’t consider wellbeing without looking at physical health, so a free gym membership is a given. Health is wealth, after all! Whether THRYVE people go for a dinner time downward dog or a sunrise spin class, they can enjoy all the delicious endorphins that exercise brings, on us. Worry is not exactly conducive to wellbeing, so our benefits include a private healthcare plan as well as dental and optical support. No untreated wobbly molars on our watch.

Floundering without support and development is a sure way to breed resentment, which is why we highly value professional and personal growth. We know that happy and healthy people do the best work, so we invest heavily in growth with dedicated personal development budgets and training from some of the best in the industry at every stage of each career path THRYVE has to offer.

Wellbeing is said to have seven key pillars: Social, Emotional, Spiritual, Environmental, Occupational, Intellectual, Physical. We’ve done our best to try to fulfil all of these and we’re constantly exploring how we can refine and improve what we offer.

Of course, the work environment is only a small part of a person’s life. That’s why our health plans include free Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and counselling to provide access to qualified professionals whenever they need it most.

WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY

“At the heart of every organisation are its people and looking after their wellbeing should be much more than a package of impressive perks on a careers website. We know when employees feel genuinely content and at ease within their roles, they are much more engaged and productive.

Now in our second year of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Wellbeing list, we’re once again able to showcase the leading organisations providing cultures conducive to outstanding psychological, physical and social wellbeing. A huge congratulations to THRYVE for making this prestigious list.”
